The Mead Wildlife Area, through the Friends of the Mead/McMillan Association, Inc. needs your continued support for the completion of the “Ephemeral Boardwalk”. Many users requested a connecting link between the existing Audubon Prairie Trail and the Mead bike trail. The Boardwalk was envisioned as a two mile interpretive trail where visitors can explore a variety of wetland types, view a demonstrative wildlife scrape, and observe habitat transitioning among predominant habitat types (wetlands, grasslands and forest).
This project is in the second year and nearing its completion. Much of the Boardwalk is already constructed and usable to guests. The Friends need your continued financial support to finish this wonderful project. Below are pictures of the Boardwalk’s construction.
This welcomed addition has enhance both the recreational and educational activities found here at the Mead! A more detailed explanation of the project can be found on this PDF brochure. ![]()
